What Will Taylor Swift do After The Eras Tour? Ranking All the Possibilities
As I write this, Taylor Swift only has 6 dates left for The Eras Tour.
Swifties all over the world are mourning this incredible loss – it was an event that united us in a time of so much division. It distracted us in a time of so much chaos. And it gave us something to obsess over, talk about, and clown over endlessly.
What happens now, after the greatest show of all time is ending? It helps to look at Taylor’s journey as a heroine’s journey, which I’ve outlined here.
What happens after our hero has come home with the magical elixir, making the everyday world from which she came brighter and more hopeful?
It depends on where you think Taylor is at in her journey. Does she complete her heroine’s journey after The Eras Tour ends, or after she’s completed her re-records? Or will those two things happen simultaneously?
I have some theories, as does the majority of the Swiftie universe. Let’s lay them all out, and rank them from most likely to least likely.
Here are the possibilities of what will happen after the Eras Tour, from realistic to downright delusional.
Most Likely Scenarios ✅
Based on Taylor’s previous patterns, career timeline, and available evidence, here’s what she’ll most likely do once The Eras Tour closes for good.
We’ll Get the Re-Records Before Any Other New Music
Taylor’s pattern with Taylor’s Version records has been a new album, then two re-records. Here’s a quick timeline of where we stand:
- NEW: folklore & evermore: July 24 & December 11, 2020
- TV: Fearless (Taylor’s Version): April 9, 2021
- TV: Red (Taylor’s Version): November 12, 2021
- NEW: Midnights: Oct 21, 2022
- TV: Speak Now (Taylor’s Version): July 7, 2023
- TV: 1989 (Taylor’s Version): October 27, 2023
- NEW: The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology: April 19, 2024
If she continues following this pattern, we’ll get Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) and reputation (Taylor’s Version) sometime in 2025.
However, she could throw us a curve ball and speed up the timeline, either announcing or releasing one or both albums before The Eras Tour ends.
My guess is that, in order to keep our attention, she won’t actually drop either album before December 8th. But she might announce one, or both.
We’ll Get New Music In 2026
Except for when her “cancellation” and the pandemic threw a wrench in her timeline, Taylor has released a new album, and entered a new era, every two years.
In the evermore prologue, she said, “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as onе-off eras and moved onto planning the nеxt one as soon as an album was released.”
She continued this two-year pattern, even during The Eras Tour, so I think we can expect a new album and era in 2026. It feels like a long time to wait, and blondie may surprise us (as she always does).
But, as she promised us in her iconic Time Magazine interview, the vault tracks for reputation will be “fire.” Those vault tracks will tide us over until a new album, surely.
We’ll Get an Eras Tour Documentary
Seeing as Taylor has been followed by a camera crew behind the scenes for many shows, most Swifties think we’re getting an Eras Tour documentary after it’s over.
We already got a mini-documentary with the I Can Do it With a Broken Heart music video, but what I’d really love to see is all the behind-the-scenes footage of how the tour was put together.
There are so many fascinating questions about costuming, choreography, the stage, the sets, Taylor’s physical training, etc – I’ll need a 10-hour documentary, please!
We’ll Get an Updated Eras Tour Movie
Since the current version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour doesn’t feature the TTPD set, most Swifties assume that the concert film will be re-released to include the current setlist.
I think this is highly likely, though I don’t think it will be re-released in theaters. I think there will either be two versions available on Disney+, or the old version will go away and be replaced with the new version. It’s also possible a physical box set could be released.
It’s possible that (theoretical) Eras Tour Documentary and the updated concert film will premiere at the same time.
The biggest question for me is: will we get any footage of her array of special guests? Will Florida!!! with Florence be included? Will Travis’ appearance make the cut?
She’ll Keep Going, Still With Major Tours
The largest question for me, and for many Swifties, is how Taylor will continue to tour after The Eras Tour. How do you top a record-breaking tour in which you performed nearly your entire catalog, summing up your career in a 3.5 hour worldwide extravaganza?
I don’t think we can assume that Taylor is done touring. We can see, and we have always seen, that being with her fans and being on stage is one of her greatest joys. I don’t see her being ready to close down this chapter of her life anytime soon.
But wouldn’t it feel small to only tour for one album, after touring for 11 albums at once? Maybe, but as she’s shown us time and time again, she finds ways to keep her performances fresh and memorable at every single show.
I predict that no matter how big or small her next tour is, she’ll retain the surprise song set, and find ways to play other portions of her catalog live.
She’ll Disappear For a While
Taylor has her finger on the pulse of both her fans and her critics, and she knows it’s a delicate balance between overexposure and becoming irrelevant.
With The Eras Tour putting her in the cultural spotlight for nearly two years non-stop, I think it’s likely she’ll take a step back into her private life for a while. This isn’t only practical (girl needs a vacation!), but strategic.
The public is fickle, and they can turn on you on a dime. She’s written a lot about this, and about the shelf life of a female artist (see Nothing New, mirrorball, The Lucky One, et al). She knows she walks a fragile line in the spotlight, and after so much exposure, I predict we won’t be seeing her pap walking daily after the tour ends.
I think she’ll pop back up for the re-records, and the possible documentary, but also take a long overdue and well-deserved vacation from the blinding spotlight.
Somewhat Likely Scenarios 🤷🏼♀️
Here are the theories that are entirely possible, but we either don’t have the evidence to back them up, or we’re just trying to will them into existence.
We’ll Get an Eras Tour Live Album
I think there’s a distinct possibility that we’ll get a live album of the tour, possibly including some surprise songs and special guests.
Will it be an album including the old setlist, or the new setlist that includes TTPD? Or maybe both?
Will there be an album of only surprise songs?
Will there be recordings available of specific shows, so you can purchase the album of the show you went to?
The possibilities are endless, and if capitalism and the power of Taylor Swift is any indication, this is a likely scenario.
The only reason I put it in the “somewhat likely” category is that, will an all-but-confirmed documentary AND a concert film, it might be over saturating the market (if such a thing is possible in the Swiftie world).
She’s also never done a live album before, even for the massive reputation tour. Would she really start now?
She’ll Move into Directing Films
News broke in 2022 that Taylor would sit in the director’s chair once again, and would make her feature film directorial debut in a deal with Searchlight Pictures.
Since that snippet, there’s been very little news on this possibility.
Keep in mind that this was announced before The Eras Tour was announced, which may have delayed or canceled this endeavor. But Taylor is a storyteller at heart, and has already written and directed her own creations (see the All Too Well short film – a masterpiece).
Even if she goes into movies or television, I don’t see her veering away from music for long.
She’ll Start Her Own Record Label
What happens to the hero after they’ve come home with the magical elixir? Once the hero’s journey is complete, what happens next?
We see this with Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, Harry Potter (and Hermione and Ron) in The Cursed Child, and Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.
Taylor is already a mentor for many young artists, but she could take it to new levels if she started her own record label. Given her traumatic experiences with her past label and ownership of her life’s work, it would be a full-circle moment.
She could grant artists ownership of their music in perpetuity, and change the way the music industry functions forevermore.
She’ll Start Her Own Ticketing Agency
Ticketmaster’s monopoly, with debacle after debacle, meant Eras Tour Tickets were harder to get than the American dream. Add to that the sky-high prices of resellers, the market – and consumers – are ready for something new.
Taylor could create her own ticketing agency for just her tours, but I think it’s more likely that she’d start – or financially back – an independent corporation that operates like a Ticketmaster, but with more fair and streamlined practices.
Though she’s an incredible businesswoman, I don’t think Taylor would be directly involved day-to-day if she were to do this. But I can see her being a financial backer and board member of a new ticketing corporation, and she could change the culture and accessibility of live music forever.
Delusional Clowning Scenarios 🤡
Here are the Swiftie theories that range from delusional to downright clownery.
We’ll Get Karma, “The Lost Album”
In 2016, we should have gotten a new album. Instead, we got radio silence. This was the point at which Taylor disappeared from the spotlight, and didn’t come back with new music until reputation in 2017.
Swifties theorize that – given her 2-year album release pattern she had stuck to since debut – that there is a “lost album”. We’ve nicknamed it “Karma.”
This is one piece of clownery that I can get behind; in its existence, at the very least. It’s likely that she did have an album planned post-1989, but her “cancellation,” in turn, canceled its release.
The major question is: how many of those songs went into reputation, and how many are left in the vault? If she had written them still under the Big Machine umbrella, are they still owned by Scooter Braun/Ithaca Holdings, and she can’t re-record them, because they were never recorded in the first place?
reputation is an album full of dualities: falling in love vs. facing your demons. In songs like Gorgeous, she’s cheerful and full of longing. In songs like Look What You Made Me Do, she’s vengeful and full of karmic retribution.
Were the love songs meant to be on “Karma,” and the other half of the album – the revenge tracks – added after her ordeal? Or was that entire album locked away, and she wrote reputation in its entirety during her seclusion?
Will we get “Karma” in the form of reputation TV vault tracks, or will we get the full album in some other way?
Or is it all clownery, and Karma doesn’t exist?
We’ll Finally Get Explanations for All The Easter Eggs
Will we ever fully understand the significance of the Lover house? Will we learn what the Karma coffee cup really means? Will Taylor tell us – blatantly or subtly – why the Eras Tour stage is shaped like the secret garden key?
There are so many unanswered questions, and we can only dream that one day, Taylor will sit down and reveal all.
She’ll Stop Touring Altogether
The Eras Tour ending really feels like the end of an era. Our hero has had her victory lap, celebrating all her accomplishments and life’s work, in a tour more massive and successful than the world has ever seen before.
But is The Eras Tour the end of Taylor’s touring era? It could be. Symbolically, it sure feels like it.
But practically, if she ever does tour again, how will she top what she’s already done?
I’m not saying she can’t top it. She very well can. But our girl needs a nice long break, at the very least, after the whirlwind of her life and non-stop work ethic.
She’ll Collab With Niceboy Ed
Niceboy Ed is the mysterious pal of Taylor that hasn’t been named. We first came to know about him in the Midnights era, when Taylor used one of his songs as a sound on a TikTok video.
Since then, speculation has only grown. Who is he? How is he connected to Taylor? Why are we in the dark about his real identity?
Is he someone already famous, and this is his side gig? Or is he someone not famous, trying to start his career with a subtle boost from the most successful artist of all time?
I can imagine this mystery coming to reveal itself in the form of a collab or on stage performance, where we get to know his identity with the two performing side by side.
I said this portion was delusional. I’m not lying.
She’ll Entirely Fade From the Spotlight
After The Eras Tour ends, Taylor will disappear. She’ll settle down in Nashville or Pennsylvania and live a quiet life, away from the madding crowd.
She’ll have ended her career on the highest note possible, then fade into the background and let other artists take the spotlight.
Right?
No, I don’t think this is likely. I think writing and performing is who Taylor is to her core, and I don’t think she could go gently into that good night. But this is my clownery, and we only put forth delusional ideas in this section of the article.

I, for one, hope that her hero’s journey isn’t really coming to an end. There’s so much that we’re eager to know, so much music that we probably haven’t heard, and so many Easter eggs we haven’t resolved.
But for now, all we can do is collectively mourn, and keep a watchful eye on Taylor’s social media to see what’s up next.
