They “just listen to the crickets sing”, which sets the quiet, rural mood. “Crickets” can also mean silence, so this one small detail is loaded with meaning.

She’s perfectly content in this silence, lost in this dreamy moment of comfort in a field.

Chorus: “I’m Only Up When You’re Not Down”

The chorus described more of their relationship with “I know everything about you” and “I don’t wanna live without you.”

This shows a kind of dependence or interdependence within their relationship. “I’m only up when you’re not down” means that Taylor’s mood is dictated by her partner’s mood. If they’re depressed, Taylor is depressed too.

“Don’t wanna fly if you’re still on the ground,” she says. Taylor’s trajectory is going up, but her partner’s could be remaining steady (“still”). Is she taking off without them?
